GKCA Issues

Langenfelder Estate

A big part of the vista as one drives into Kingsville from the south is the large house on the hill to the left, the Langenfelder Estate. As the surrounding property was being developed several years ago, the GKCA worked hard to preserve this vista and to achieve a development plan that would preserve, as much as possible, the character of the community. Now, there is a new attempt to develop the remaining parcel. Through the efforts of the GKCA, and in line with the County Master Plan, this property was added to the County's list of Historic Landmarks. The mansion has been preserved and refurbished.

The case has been in a long series of hearings and court cases for the past 2 1/2 years, too complex to describe here. On April 17, 2008, the Baltimore County Planning Board voted to support the prohibition of further development. This brought the case back to the Board of Appeals which decided in favor of GKCA to deny further development. The developer has filed an appeal, so the long-fought case is not over.
